Severn Edge Equine provides comprehensive first opinion veterinary care to horse owners across Shropshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands. At Severn Edge Equine we do a lot of pre purchase examinations (vettings) each year, both at 2 and 5 stage level.
Buying a horse is an exciting time, our experienced team will work with you and advise on the correct level of vetting that you will need. Where possible we would encourage clients to have a 5 stage vetting including blood sampling, this allows us to examine the horse before, after and during exercise. Within our team of vets we have 3 vets that are experienced in pre-purchase exams and we often can schedule these visits with a week’s notice.

It is very important to have your horse’s mouth regularly and thoroughly examined – at least once every year. At the Severn Edge Equine Vets we are all equipped with a full set of modern floats with Tungsten Carbide blades and Haussmann gags to allow clear and safe examination and rasping. We also use electric rasps as standard which allows precise reduction of large overgrowths that would be impossible to remove with manual rasps.

When a horse stops performing to their expected level, there can be a long list of possible explanations. At Severn Edge Equine we have a team of vets that have a particular interest in investigating such cases. A logical diagnostic approach is critical, we will take a thorough history from you before examining the horse in detail, then discussing the findings with the owner or trainer and coming up with a plan
